In August 2019 I went on a five-day tour to Pyongyang with a small group of tourists under the surprivision of North Korean tour guides. This is still the only way to visit North Korea. Inside, Outside set out to resist the heavily steretoyped Western image of North Korea, at the end of the trip I had to acknowledge the impossibility of authentic visual representations. Instead, the series is my attempt to capture the theatricality of the city through playful framing and juxtapositions.
